Hometown Media Bias
Below, please find my response to a July 18th article in the Akron Beacon Journal. I tried to be clinical in my thinking...
----------------------------------------
"Dear Voice of the People:
Mr. Needs column of July 18th, which is written around Rick Rohrich's assertion that the Beacon Journal was politically biased, was not a convincing piece.
I too see a political bias at the Beacon Journal. The phrasing of headlines, the types of articles adjacent to articles about Bush, position placement of conservative v. liberal articles...all suggest a political bias at the Beacon...towards Mr. Kerry.
This observation may be a precursor to the paper's political endorsement announcement.
Should that be the case, The Beacon Journal would be joining the ranks of mainstream media who have been selling out the traditional "Give 'Em Hell Harry" American determination and democracy, to a society gravitating to the internationist, European model of Socialism, appeasement, and taxation offered by the Kerry campaign.
Instead of taking the party line all the time, sit back and grapple with the perceptive reality of your readers...that we the readers sense this bias and are disappointed in your emerging views supporting a liberal, socialist government, and not of the future of an American-built democracy."
